Autism Treatment Services
The Autism Treatment Team at the Caillier Clinic is composed of selected individuals from the clinical staff. Paul M. Caillier, Ph.D. heads up the treatment team. His practice has included work with specialized populations both in assessment and treatment. He has established a number of specialized teams including an in-home family treatment team (FTT), a juvenile sexual offender treatment team and the autism treatment team.
Other primary members of the team are:
Kari Lentz who has a bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and a Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling. Kari is serving as a line therapist on the autism treatment team. She provides applied behavioral analysis treatments (ABA) along with supportive family psychotherapy for parents and children in-home with autistic children.
Leighan Nand is presently involved in completing her degree in human development and is the parent of two autistic children. She has several years experience in working as a line therapist using ABA principals and supportive psychotherapy.
Patricia Fedie has a Master of Science of Social Work from the University of Minnesota and is a team leader for the ABA program as well as all intensive in-home programming done at the clinic. She has undergone extensive training in ABA principals and serves as a senior therapist. She has had many years of applying ABA in her practice.
The autism treatment team provides individualized one to one ABA treatment in a child’s home. The goal of the treatment is to build a range of skills including communication, social, and learning skills as well as reducing challenging behaviors with children diagnosed with a congenital developmental disorder such as Autism, Asperger’s Syndrome or Pervasive Developmental Disorder.
Once Dr. Caillier or other qualified provider has established the Autism Spectrum Diagnosis and the child becomes accepted into the program, intensive in-home programming is provided 20 to 35 hours per week. The program starts with an extensive evaluation by a behavior analyst in which the behaviors to be built in and the behaviors to be reduced are documented and prioritized. The team, in conjunction with the parents, develops a program that will allow for measurable change in the child’s behavior throughout the day. The emphasis on prioritizing behaviors is to eliminate disruptive problem behaviors initially and, either conjointly or as the therapy proceeds, build in new skills such as speech, etc. The behaviors are initially analyzed and counted followed by a behavior intervention program followed by generalizing the behavior to the natural environment, that is, to the point where the parents can control the behaviors. The parents are seen as a critical part of any lifestyle change for the child. An accurate record of change is kept as is required under the Autism Mandate.
This Wisconsin law requires insurers to cover treatments for individuals with autism spectrum disorders. This applies to private health insurers as well as group insurance plans. In addition, there are monies available through the county to pay for necessary services that are not covered. Necessary services are seen as application of the applied behavioral analysis model. Under the mandate, the child can have four years of intensive services no less than 20 hours a week and no more than 35 hours per week in the home. Pre-intensive treatment can also be mandated prior to the four year intensive treatment. Aftercare treatment services may also be mandated after the four year intensive program.
In addition to ABA therapy, the autism treatment team also provides Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) and other therapy modalities on a limited basis. These additional services are not covered by the Autism Mandate but may be covered by insurance, private payment or other similar Wisconsin treatment law. The Autism Treatment Team (ATT) of Caillier Clinic, Ltd. is registered with the State of
Wisconsin is an official provider of the services. Dr. Caillier has undergone a rigorous process to determine that he has the appropriate training, background and experience to treat children with the autism spectrum disorder. The Caillier Clinic has provided each of the line staff and supervisors with on site ABA and other relevant therapy training to ensure the highest standard of treatment is delivered to your child.
